Sully at Liferay Devcon 2024
November 18, 2024
Since 2016, Sully has actively participated in numerous events organized around the Liferay tool to offer efficient expertise to its customers.
Liferay is a software publisher with which Sully officially partnered in 2018.
Liferay publishes open source DXP (Digital Experience Platform) solutions combining content management, social collaboration, integration with third-party tools and B2B e-commerce functionalities based on the Java language. The company also offers low-code / no-code functionalities to enable users to create applications without the need for advanced technical skills.
Sully Group has made this technological choice in order to meet our customers' powerful, long-term digital design needs.
The Liferay DEVCON (Developer Conference) is an annual conference organized by Liferay. This year, the conference lasted 3 days: 2 days of conferences and the last day, for which there is no set program: the Unconference. Liferay DEVCON is the largest gathering of Liferay developers, so it's THE technical conference that brings together all the publisher's engineering teams, management and partners.
Our Web Factory team has been taking part since 2016, and you can find out more about our participation in the 2023 edition. For the 2024 edition, which took place from November 11 to 14 in Budapest, Benjamin, Offer Manager, and Cédric, Design Engineer, were present.
Benjamin, what's the point of being here?
It's very important, as it keeps us up to date with Liferay's new products and roadmap. It's also an opportunity for us to meet Liferay engineers, share our issues with them and discuss them with them.
The aim is also to meet all our French and foreign partners and discuss their operations.
Also, for the first time, some of our customers (the Council of Europe and EDQM) have come to discover the event.
It's an opportunity for us to showcase Sully Group's Liferay expertise and reinforce our image and technical skills.
Cédric, what did you learn on the technical side?
The focus of this year's Devcon was AI. This was something that was criticized at the last Devcon. The aim was to show that Liferay is interested in it, and that certain developments are being made to incorporate it.
The element I find most interesting is semantic search. The aim is no longer to use a search engine via keywords, but rather by asking questions.
There was also a focus on low code / no code, i.e. no longer developing directly on the platform. And, to be able to quickly realize concrete functional cases without needing to develop and deploy them. It's very interesting to be able to create APIs without having to develop with low code / no code, to create an interface contract directly in Liferay.
Liferay is also aware that there are shortcomings in terms of documentation, so they are going to set up a platform with dynamic learning paths, capable of awarding certifications.
Have you presented any subjects?
Yes! On the last day, we presented some elements. It's a rather special format: the last day is called the Unconference.
There are no pre-planned topics, just slots with rooms, and it's up to people to propose and discuss topics around Liferay, with the other participants. In each room and at each time, there's someone from Liferay on hand to answer questions.
We proposed a few topics concerning migrations from one version to another, and got feedback from other partners. We also shared knowledge on how to transfer data from a production environment to a recipe or development environment. The aim is to ensure that the person who is going to test or correct a bug can easily access an environment with identical data to production (except for the delta of anonymization).
This day of the Devcon Unconference is very interesting. It provides food for thought for both partner and vendor teams.
